New Gambling Legislation in Belgium being challenged

In a move which surprised nobody, the EGBA has filed a complaint with the EU over Belgium’s new gambling laws. The harsh new restrictions imposed by the Belgian government are along the same lines as those which have been challenged in other European countries such as Poland, for example. The reason for Belgium’s imposing these laws is fairly obvious, it is to make it difficult or sometimes impossible for casinos outside of Belgium to obtain online gaming licenses. While Belgium’s laws are similar to Poland’s, in that they require the casino to have it’s servers and staff all located inside Belgium, Belgium has gone even further by requiring the operators to also have a land based casino operating in Belgium. The reason given for this is that Belgium wants to be absolutely certain that GamingClub Casino, or other online casinos, they will not have the benefit of a competitive market.
